Residents of Broken Hill can now take part in more health and wellbeing programs thanks to a major development underway at the city’s YMCA Integrated Wellness Centre.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton toured the facility again today and said he is pleased to support the redevelopment of the YMCA’s mezzanine floor, creating a functional and inviting space for community groups to use and enjoy.
“When complete, the mezzanine will include an allied health room, spin room, several wellness studios, multi-purpose spaces and a cafe,” Mr Coulton said.
“The YMCA is at the centre of so much community activity and will support the delivery of a range of targeted programs supporting Indigenous people, people with disability and those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the new mezzanine and larger redevelopment of the centre will contribute to short and long-term job opportunities.
“Regional cities such as Broken Hill are vibrant places to live and work and the community deserves to have access to facilities that promote healthy, active and fulfilling lifestyles,” Mr McCormack said.
“The YMCA has been an important part of the local community for more than 100 years and this transformation means residents can now take part in fun and modern activities such virtual fitness classes and gymnastics.”
Area Manager of the YMCA NSW Shane Simmons said the new mezzanine will be an easily accessible and comfortable space for a broad cross-section of the local community, complete with a new lift, upgraded stairwell, accessible toilet, air-conditioning and sensor lighting.
“We are very excited by the opportunities that these upgrades will offer and hope that the new facilities build a stronger and happier Broken Hill community,” Mr Simmons said.
The project was jointly funded with the Liberal and Nationals Government and YMCA NSW both investing $371,302.
