Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is continuing his campaign to obtain funding for the expansion of Macquarie Home Stay.
Mr Coulton today invited his Nationals colleague Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional Development Dr Anne Webster to visit the accommodation facility, to build on his advocacy for the project.
Dr Webster said it is important in her role as Shadow Assistant Minister that she understands projects throughout regional Australia that are a priority for her colleagues and the communities they serve.
“In May, Mr Coulton announced $2.45 million for Dubbo’s Macquarie Home Stay under a re-elected Coalition Government because he recognised the evident needs in the community and advocated hard to see them addressed,” Dr Webster said.
“It is important that the Albanese Government understands the significance of this project and how vital it is to the people of western NSW.
“The Nationals have a proven commitment to rural and regional Australia and we will continue to fight for the recognition and investment of key infrastructure that towns such as Dubbo deserve.”
Mr Coulton said Macquarie Home Stay has become a vital service for people throughout western NSW, providing much needed support for those who need to travel to Dubbo for medical care.
“Whether it’s expectant mothers preparing to give birth, day surgery patients or people undergoing treatment for cancer, Macquarie Home Stay provides a low-cost home away from home for rural and remote patients and their families, taking the stress out of having to find suitable accommodation during what is often a very difficult time,” Mr Coulton said.
“Prior to the election we made a promise to provide funding to construct an additional 26 units to help meet the growing demand for accommodation as more people travel to Dubbo for medical treatment.
“Of course, now we are on the opposition benches, but the need for this expansion hasn’t changed. That is why I have invited the Shadow Assistant Minister here today, to ensure the new government understands the importance of expanding this service for patient care in Dubbo.
“I know how much this facility benefits families right across the Parkes electorate and how critical it is as Dubbo continues to grow as the region’s health hub.”
