Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is thrilled with Warialda Public School’s recent rugby union victory, and said it is testament to the strength of the town in the face of adversity.
“I’m delighted with Warialda’s big win at the NSW PSSA State Rugby finals, and I congratulate the team on their achievement,” Mr Coulton said.
“Warialda is my hometown, and Warialda Public School is my former school, so naturally I am very excited about this.
“This state championship success has been the talk of the town, and it’s not hard to see why.
“It’s been a hot, dry, winter here and the tough conditions prevail, so this victory has been particularly inspiring for the community.
“It goes to show just how capable and versatile these school students are, having never played rugby union until this year.”
Mr Coulton said the win was inspired by 10-year-old teammate Darcy Mitchell who was recently injured in a farm accident.
“I’m proud of this huge effort, and how special it would have been for Darcy to witness, and so too is the entire town.
“I’d like to commend school principal and team coach, Dan van Velthuizen, on this success. Dan has done a wonderful job with the team.”
