Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton has congratulated four Horizon Scholarship recipients from the Parkes Electorate who travelled to Canberra this week.
Mr Coulton met with Richard Quigley (Trangie), Kate Johnston (Moree), Jack Scifleet (Binnaway) and Felicity Taylor (Moree) who were in Canberra as a part of the Horizon Scholarship program.
“These young people have a love for agriculture and a love of the land in their DNA. They have been brought up to respect the land and to have a belief in agriculture,” said Mr Coulton.
“It is a great privilege as a member of Parliament to meet motivated young professional people like Richie, Kate, Jack and Felicity.”
Mr Coulton spoke in the Parliament about the promising future of agriculture in Australia.
“There are wonderful opportunities today for graduates to have a professional career in agriculture with two and half jobs on offer for every graduate.”
“The free trade agreements with countries to our North such as Japan and South Korea mean that having a productive agricultural sector is more important than ever,” said Mr Coulton.
“I would also like to commend the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation for their work in coordinating the Horizon scholarship as well as the industry sponsors who work with the Scholarship recipients.”
