Young athletes looking for financial assistance to support their involvement in sport
are encouraged to apply for a Local Sporting Champions grant.
The Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton said the Coalition Government is committed to getting Australian kids more active, more often and is encouraging young athletes, coaches and officials to apply for a Local Sporting Champions grant before the deadline closes on June 30.
Mr Coulton said the $500 grants provide financial assistance to athletes, coaches and officials, to go towards travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when attending endorsed state, national or international championships.
“Local Sporting Champions grants provide an ideal opportunity for young sports people to gain financial assistance to help them turn their sporting dreams into a reality” Mr Coulton said.
The grants are aimed at alleviating the financial strain some families and young athletes feel when selected for a significant sporting event.
“The number of Local Sporting Champions grants is limited, and it is important that athletes, coaches and officials apply for the financial support before their event” he said.
Announcing the next round of the Local Sporting Champion grants programme Mr Coulton congratulated twelve athletes who were successful in their recent applications to receive funding.
Mr Coulton said the athletes from around the electorate of Parkes had gained national and state representation in a variety of sports including athletics, swimming, basketball, netball, cycling and triathlon.
He congratulated Jonah Raidaveta, Alirah Watton, Teague Hall, Angus Mcdonald, Chloe Perkins, Grace Osborne, Dylan Eather, Millie Gooch, William Cuthill, Brooke Galley, Sharlene Jacky, Ella Penman.
