The Federal Government has dedicated more than $680,000 to Indigenous health providers in the Parkes electorate, Federal Member Mark Coulton has announced today.
Mr Coulton said the funding will be used for vital upgrades to help staff continue delivering quality care to local Indigenous people, and is part of the Coalition Government’s $2.7 million Service Maintenance Program.
“This is significant funding for Indigenous communities in my electorate, especially for Walgett, Brewarrina, Condobolin, Moree, Dubbo and Broken Hill, which all stand to benefit,” Mr Coulton said.
“This support for clinics, accommodation and associated facilities will help to provide care that is culturally appropriate and best practice. I am pleased facilities in regional and remote areas are a priority for the Government.
“The Service Maintenance Program is an important part of the Indigenous Australians’ Health Program (IAHP), supporting improved health outcomes through better access to services.
“I believe it is important to provide Indigenous communities with access to quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care.”
Mr Coulton said of the funding, Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service will receive more than $282,000 for repair and maintenance to improve two staff houses and the Brewarrina Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) building.
Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service will upgrade and modify staff accommodation premises with more than $194,000 in funding, and Pius X Aboriginal Corporation in Moree will undertake structural reinforcement activities and clinic upgrades thanks to nearly $130,000.
Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service’s Dubbo site and Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation in Broken Hill will also receive funding to upgrade and extend their premises.
In the recent Budget, the Coalition Government announced $3.9 billion over four years to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; an increase of approximately four per cent per year.
