Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is encouraging people throughout the Parkes electorate to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate on Australia Day 2022.

“Australia Day is a day for all Australians to celebrate everything that is good about our country, particularly our people and our resilience,” Mr Coulton said.

“Throughout the pandemic we have witnessed our country at its best and this Australia Day is an opportunity to give thanks for who we are and what we have achieved.

“Getting together with family and friends or going to a local community event is what Australia Day is all about – and this year being surrounded by our communities and loved ones will be especially significant.

“Across the Parkes electorate, Australians will come together in backyards, parks and community halls for local Australia Day events – from citizenship and Welcome to Country ceremonies to pool parties and great Aussie barbecues.

“However you choose to spend the day, I encourage you to do, taste, hear and discover something Australian to celebrate Australia Day 2022.”

Mr Coulton said Australia Day is also a chance to reflect on the past, present and future, listen to and respect each other’s stories, contributions and aspirations and celebrate being Australian together.

“We are all part of the story of Australia,” Mr Coulton said.

“Our story began more than 65,000 years ago, so on Australia Day it’s important to reflect on our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture.

“We also celebrate the waves of migration that earned Australia’s place as the most successful multicultural immigration nation in the world. We respect their contribution to building a nation on the shared values we cherish – democracy, individual freedom and the rule of law that make Australia a successful, tolerant and cohesive society.

“On Australia Day, we acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that every Australian makes to our great nation.”

The National Australia Day Council – backed by the Australian Government – through its Australia Day 2022 Community Grants Program has supported councils, sporting groups, multicultural associations and other community gatherings in the Parkes electorate to deliver local Australia Day events.
