Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton met with students and teachers from Gilgandra Public School at the Australian War Memorial this morning as part of the School Wreath Laying Ceremony Program.
The School Wreath Laying Ceremony Program provides students with an opportunity to participate in a commemorative ceremony in the Hall of Memory.
“It was a privilege to attend this solemn and moving occasion with students from Gilgandra Public School,” Mr Coulton said.
“The freedoms that students in Australia have today owe so much to the sacrifices of our brave service men and women, and ceremonies like this help connect today’s generations with this history.”
Mr Coulton was pleased to take part in this ceremony, which included bugle calls and a minute’s silence following ‘The Last Post’ as well as the laying of a wreath.
The School Wreath Laying Ceremony Program is delivered before opening hours at the Australian War Memorial and is free of charge for visiting school groups.
