Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has today announced that Tibooburra Sports Club and Tibooburra & District Progress Association will share in $23,045 to install air conditioners at their respective premises.
Mr Coulton met with both organisations in Broken Hill today to share the news.
The grants have been committed under the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) and include $15,400 for the Sports Club, and $7,645 for the Progress Association.
“I’m delighted that with this funding under the SCP, the Tibooburra community – including volunteers – will be able to enjoy cool comfort at local events,” Mr Coulton said.
“A community like Tibooburra thrives on events to bring the community together, and it’s important the essential infrastructure, like air conditioning, is in place to make these functions possible.
“Tibooburra Sports Club hosts a number of community events, including in the hot summer months, so the air-conditioned comfort will be very much appreciated by all.
“Currently, there is no air conditioning at the club. Thanks to this funding, six air conditioning units will be installed in the club office, crèche, kitchen, dance-floor, kiosk and bar areas.”
Mr Coulton said the grant for Tibooburra & District Progress Association will fund the installation of an air conditioner at the community hall, as well as a power upgrade.
“The project will replace the hall’s existing air conditioner and old wiring with a new unit, which will provide the local community with new and secured power to assist committees that use the hall for fundraising and family events,” he said.
The grant funding will be matched with contributions from the Sports Club and the Progress Association respectively.
The Australian Government funding commitment for Round Five of the SCP is $22.65 million, with funding of up to $150,000 available for each electorate. A maximum of 20 projects will be funded in each electorate, with successful projects receiving a grant between $2,500 and $20,000. Further updates about other successful SCP projects in the Parkes electorate will be made available in the near future.
