Warren Men’s Shed has received a $2,000 grant under round 17 of the Federal Government’s National Shed Development Programme, announced by Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton recently.
Mr Coulton visited the Men’s Shed today to formally congratulate the recipients.
“I believe this funding will go a long way. It is wonderful to see the vital services the Warren Men’s Shed provides to the local community,” Mr Coulton said.
“The $2,000 grant has been used for health and wellbeing and events through a First Aid kit and Test and Tag equipment and training, as well as travel to Orange for training.
“The Warren Men’s Shed offers support to local men who need a bit of space and some easy-going company.”
Mr Coulton said Men’s Sheds play a very important role in communities like Warren.
“I’ll be the first to admit that men can sometimes be the last ones to prioritise their health and wellbeing. We need to do what we can to ensure they get the support they need, which is why I always encourage men to drop in to their local shed.”
Heath Minister Greg Hunt said feeling part of a social group is important to our emotional and mental health.
“Every day Men’s Sheds across Australia and in the Parkes electorate provide men with an opportunity for companionship and support within their community,” Minister Hunt said.
The Coalition Government is investing a total of $5.1 million over three years to the national Men’s Sheds movement.
The Men’s Shed grants programme provides funding of up to a total of $10,000 through a competitive grants process for health improvement activities, the purchase of tools and equipment, community projects and training, and for building maintenance and development.
