The youth of Brewarrina will have a dedicated space to catch up with friends and play sports, with the Australian Government providing more than $10 million for the Brewarrina PCYC.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has welcomed this funding which was announced this week under Round 1 of the Growing Regions Program.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to see that Brewarrina Shire Council has been awarded $10,069,524 for the development of the Brewarrina PCYC Youth Hub and Indoor Sports Centre,” Mr Coulton said.
“The project includes the construction of a multi-sport indoor facility, gymnasium, meeting areas and amenities.
“This facility will be a game-changer for Brewarrina, giving the community and young people a safe place to go to meet, catch up with friends and keep active, while staying out of trouble.
“Although the announcement of successful applicants for the Growing Regions Program was delayed by more than two months, I’m very thankful to Infrastructure Minister Catherine King for recognising the importance of this worthwhile project.”
Brewarrina Shire Council Mayor Vivian Slack-Smith said this funding is a major coup for the entire community.
“To say we are blown away by this news is an understatement,” Cr Slack-Smith said.
“This project will cater for the recreational and leisure needs of our community, particularly young people. It’s an uplifting way of helping our local kids, and we believe it will bring so much positivity to this community.
“We really appreciate the Government for recognising this need and having faith in us to deliver this project. We’d also like to thank Mr Coulton for lobbying on our behalf and stressing the importance of what our little town needs time and time again.
“It’s just great news for a little community out here that does it pretty tough.”
