Broken Hill Community Incorporated will be able to complete a much-needed makeover of its green room, thanks to a $16,383 grant from the Federal Government.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton visited Broken Hill Community Inc. to announce the funding, provided through Round 6 of the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).
“I am incredibly pleased to help such a wonderful community organisation like Broken Hill Community Incorporated with their plans to upgrade the green room,” Mr Coulton said.
“This facility plays an important role in building community participation and creating a vibrant community.
“Volunteer organisations in the Parkes electorate are pivotal to our local communities, and this program certainly goes some way to supporting them and the terrific work they do.”
Broken Hill Community Incorporated President John Harris said the grant will be used to cover the cost of a lighting and ceiling upgrade, the installation of a reverse cycle air conditioner, new floor coverings, blinds and security screens, disabled access, and a fresh coat of paint.
“We use our green room to hire to community groups, associations and individuals to hold meetings, seminars and other activities, such as art classes,” Mr Harris said.
“Our green room is our most popular room to hire out and now that we are doing a complete makeover of the room, it will attract more community groups to our neighbourhood centre at 200 Beryl Street.
“We are so grateful for this funding and thank the Federal Government for its support.”
An additional $28.2 million was provided in the 2021-22 Budget to extend the Stronger Communities Programme to a seventh round.
