Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton has hosted a very constructive meeting with the Mayor of Dubbo, Councillor Mathew Dickerson and representatives from the nbn in his Dubbo office this week.
“Both Councillor Dickerson and I are very passionate about ensuring that every resident and business right across Dubbo can access the nbn network,” Mr Coulton said.
“I was very pleased that we secured an opportunity for both Councillor Dickerson and I to sit down with the nbn in the same room and have an open conversation about how we will achieve this.”
Both Mr Coulton and Councillor Dickerson welcomed confirmation from the nbn that Dubbo will be one of the first regional areas to be connected to the network with all work scheduled for completion by mid-2016.
Mr Coulton said this is an important milestone for the Dubbo area, with greater certainty for homes and businesses as they prepare for superfast broadband.
“The message for Dubbo residents and businesses is clear – superfast broadband is on its way,” Mr Coulton said.
“I know there has been great frustration for people in areas across my electorate with very poor broadband infrastructure.
“The nbn project aims to provide much needed relief for these regions.”
Councillor Dickerson said that the nbn network will provide a range of opportunities for Dubbo businesses and residents.
“The nbn is a real game-changer for regional NSW with super-fast broadband giving businesses and residents in Dubbo even greater advantages than people in metropolitan areas,” Councillor Dickerson said.
“Dubbo is ready to adopt super-fast broadband and my aim is for Dubbo to be the number one nbn connector in the nation in terms of speed of uptake.
“As one of the first regional areas to be connected Dubbo will be ahead of the rest of the country in being able to offer super-fast broadband to businesses and investors.
“The nbn will also create opportunities to enhance services such as tele-health, on-line retail services, digital collaboration and much more cementing Dubbo’s reputation for innovation.”
Dubbo’s CBD will be the first area to be fully connected to the network.
The nbn will continue to update its online maps to inform residents when the network will be ready for service.
Households and businesses can also register their details at www.nbnco.com.au to be provided with future updates.
