The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will provide $101.7 million in support for the Moree Solar Farm, a project worth $164 million in total.
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton has welcomed the announcement saying that the investment showed that the Federal Government is committed to renewable energy as part of Australia’s diverse energy mix.
“I welcome this investment in Moree and the surrounding district. This project will generate over 130 local jobs during the construction period which will be a major boost to local employment,” said Mr Coulton.
“The Moree Solar Farm has been very much supported by the community and I am pleased that with this announcement the project will be able to progress.
“Just last week I was in Nyngan for the installation of the first panels in AGL Energy’s large scale solar plant and I look forward to seeing the construction of the Moree Solar Farm underway.
“For the solar industry to advance in Australia it is important that investments can deliver outcomes and provide knowledge that can be used on a large scale.
“The tracking system that will be utilised at the Moree Solar Farm will gain the most from the sun and will be the first of its kind in Australia.
“Moree is an ideal location for a solar farm and as a supporter of this project I am very pleased with this investment for the region.”
