Five new bridges will be delivered in the electorate of Parkes following the announcement of successful projects under Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.
Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said the Federal Government’s funding would enable two new bridges being built in the Brewarrina Shire Council and one each in the Lachlan, Narrabri and Walgett Shire Councils.
Mr Coulton said he had worked closely with these communities to identify key bridges for replacement, with the improvement set to increase connectivity in the region.
In the Brewarrina Shire the Programme will provide for the replacement of the Birrie Bridge and the replacement of Muckerawa and Dumble Bridges on Goodooga Road.
In the remaining three Local Government Areas there will be the replacement of the Island Creek Bridge, the Bullawa Creek Bridge and the design and construction of Goangra Bridge.
The Federal Government will contribute $5,537,467 of the total $11,074,934 in dollar-for-dollar funding for the construction of the five new bridges.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the $162.53 million funding toward Round 3 of the Bridges Renewal program was in addition to the $216 million committed under the first two rounds.
“The renewal and upgrade of 186 bridges under this round will deliver social and economic benefits throughout regional Australia,” Mr Chester said.
The Federal Government’s financial commitment in this round will be matched by successful proponents.
