Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton and Mayor of Wellington, Councillor Rod Buhr, have officially opened Main Road 353 at a ribbon cutting ceremony held near Comobella Hall.
The official opening was dedicated to the completion of sealing and upgrade works to the Main Road 353, the Wellington to Golden Highway roadway.
“It has certainly been a long time coming and I am very pleased to be a part of the celebrations for the completion of the much needed works along this main road,” Mr Coulton said.
The sealing and upgrade work undertaken on Main Road 353 was made possible by a combination of not only federal, state and local Government funding, but also funding from the private sector.
Many local residents also attended the official opening of the roadway which has been some 37 years in the making.
Mr Coulton, Councillor Buhr and local residents have all noticed the increase of the use of Main Road 353 since the roadworks have been completed and the upgraded road is already producing positive benefits for the local area.
“It is a great advantage for Wellington and its surrounding communities to have this road finished,” Mr Coulton said.
“The road is now safer for everyone who uses it and it provides a route between Wellington and outlying towns which increases the tourism prospects for the local area.”
Councillor Buhr agrees with Mr Coulton and hopes that Main Road 353 will now be utilised by a range of local residents and travellers.
“I am very pleased that the road now provides a much safer roadway for local residents and visitors to the area,” Councillor Buhr said.
“Council is hopeful that it will see a boost to the local area with the increase of the traffic now being seen along Main Road 353.”
