Dubbo has been named an nbn Business Fibre Zone and will offer NBN Co’s premium business-grade fibre to around 500 local businesses at the same wholesale price as in the capital cities.
The recently announced Business Fibre Initiative for Dubbo is creating confidence amongst the local business community, according to Dubbo Chamber of Commerce President Matt Wright.
Federal Member for Parkes and Minister for Regional Communications Mark Coulton joined Mr Wright and NBN Co representatives today for a webinar session in Dubbo to help businesses make the most of the initiative.
In joining the breakfast event, Mr Coulton said Business Fibre Zones offered many benefits to Dubbo by both better connecting local businesses with the rest of the world.
“The Business Fibre Zone initiative is a great opportunity for businesses to become more connected. This initiative by nbn will help further close the gap between metro and regional areas, allowing us to attract businesses and professionals to decentralise,” Mr Coulton said.
“Better connectivity will not only help businesses carry out their day to day operations faster and more efficiently – it also brings opportunities such as access to services and support, and the ability to innovate.
“I congratulate nbn for the Business Fibre Initiative and I’m pleased to see Dubbo recognised in the national roll-out.
“With these levels of connectivity in Dubbo, the city will surely achieve its place as a viable alternative to metropolitan cities.”
Mr Wright said the Business Fibre Initiative levels the playing field between regional businesses and those in metropolitan areas.
“Regional businesses will be very pleased with the fact this type of technology is being brought out to regional areas at a price competitive with metro areas,” Mr Wright said.
“Investment and interest in regional areas from government and nbn provides confidence to regional businesses that they can continue to grow and expand.
“It’s exciting that businesses can utilise this type of technology to give them that reliability and confidence to grow.”
Mr Wright said it was paramount that interested businesses get involved early.
The Dubbo Business Fibre Zone is one of 240 locations across Australia to receive dedicated business fibre, with participating service providers now offering the Enterprise Ethernet at reduced wholesale prices to enable businesses to take up the new service.
Enterprise Ethernet is nbn’s fastest symmetrical wholesale product and premium-grade business offering. It has options for prioritised traffic, high capacity and symmetrical upload and download wholesale speeds from 10Mbps to close to 1Gbps1, as well as enhanced 24/7 support for service providers through the business nbn Operations Centre with a dedicated team located in Australia.
