The Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said the Mullaley-district’s Lively Linseed Products is one of the growing numbers of local businesses adopting Australia’s new Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL) early, helping consumers make the home-grown choice.
Mr Coulton hosted the Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, Luke Hartsuyker, on a visit to Lively Linseed and commended the family-owned business for implementing the new system well ahead of the 30 June 2018 deadline.
He said it was encouraging to see local businesses like Lively Linseed leading the way on the changes, inspiring more to follow in its example.
“It would be great to see more businesses adopt the changes ahead of time,” Mr Coulton said.
“The Federal Government is helping businesses with the process, with a range of assistance available, including an online tool to help them identify appropriate labelling for their products.”
Minister Hartsuyker said food origin transparency is a growing trend internationally and Australians are no different.
“They want to know where their food is grown, made or packed, and how much is sourced from Australian farmers,” Minister Hartsuyker said.
“As an early adopter of CoOL, it’s exciting to see Lively Linseed putting this information front and centre on their range of healthy nutritional products manufactured from linseed grown on NSW farmland.
“For most food made, grown or produced in Australia, labels will feature the kangaroo in a triangle symbol and a bar chart indicating the percentage of Australian ingredients.
“Australian produce has an enviable reputation of high-quality and clean and green and consumers have a right to know where their food comes from.”
