Lachlan Valley Way road users will reap the benefits of a replacement of Island Creek Bridge on Fairholme Road, with works now complete.
Member for Parkes Mark Coulton joined with Lachlan Shire Council Mayor John Medcalf to officially open the bridge today, which has been funded under round three of the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.
“I am pleased that with $295,000 in Coalition Government funding, and an equal contribution from Lachlan Shire Council, this bridge upgrade is now complete,” Mr Coulton said.
“Lachlan Valley Way is a reliable stock and grain route for local farmers, and an important thoroughfare in my electorate.
“Local industry will see the benefits of the new Island Creek Bridge including heavy vehicle access right up to B-triple road trains.
“This is a positive investment in the region’s infrastructure and economy.”
Lachlan Shire Council Mayor John Medcalf has welcomed the completion of works on Island Creek Bridge.
“Many farmers in the region depend on Lachlan Valley Way, and the Island Creek Bridge renewal is an important part of our road transport and infrastructure network,” Mayor Medcalf said.
“Since 2008 Council has had plans to upgrade this bridge, and now the replacement has finally come to fruition.
“We would like to thank the Federal Government for helping to fund this important project in the Lachlan Shire.”
Island Creek Bridge is one of five new bridges being upgraded in the electorate of Parkes under round three of the Coalition Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.
The Bridges Renewal Programme is designed to bolster the productivity of Australia’s local bridges and give councils the support they need to better serve communities and drive greater road efficiencies.
