The Australian Government Mobile Service Centre ‘Golden Wattle’ has hit the road to give people in the Walgett and Narrabri Shires convenient, local access to essential government payments and services in late June and early July.
The Mobile Service Centre will visit Rowena, Burren Junction, Pilliga and Wee Waa to offer Centrelink and Medicare payments and services, Child Support information and hearing health checks.
Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne said the Mobile Service Centre is a travelling outreach service that helps shrink the distance between rural and regional communities and government services.
“We’re pleased to be bringing the Mobile Service Centre to the Walgett and Narrabri Shire regions,” Minister Payne said.
“‘Golden Wattle’ is a custom-built truck designed as an office so that we can travel to rural and regional communities.
“This Mobile Service Centre has the same technology as any other Medicare or Centrelink Service Centre, including access to self-service facilities. It’s also wheelchair accessible and has a soundproof room where we are able to conduct free hearing health checks.”
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton MP said the mobile service centres are important for connecting people in rural and remote communities with government services.
“Last time the Mobile Service Centre was in the area staff on board helped register several customers for self service, so they are now able to do their government business when and where they need to,” Mr Coulton said.
“The staff on board are specialists in rural servicing and offer information and services tailored to meet the needs of each community.
“I encourage local residents to come along and visit the Mobile Service Centre while it’s visiting these Shires.”
Mr Coulton said staff can help with:
- rural payment entitlements for eligible farmers,
- new claims for a wide range of Centrelink payments,
- updating customer information,
- confirming customer documents and supporting information,
- information on how financial matters may impact on Centrelink payments,
- payment and service options to suit individual circumstances,
- non-cash Medicare transactions,
- Medicare registrations,
- information on Child Support payment and service options,
- specialist support and referrals,
- support with and access to self service facilities, and
- free hearing health checks.
