The local Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, is encouraging his constituents to engage with Australia’s unique culture and heritage this NAIDOC Week.
This year NAIDOC Week takes on the theme Voice. Treaty. Truth – Let’s work together for a shared future, echoing the call for constitutional recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Mr Coulton said it is about recognising the achievements of our Indigenous communities.
“I’m proud to represent many diverse communities across Parkes, including Indigenous communities,” Mr Coulton said.
“NAIDOC Week is about celebrating our First Nations’ people and what they have achieved, and I’m encouraging those in my electorate to get involved in any way they can.
“From 7 – 14 July 2019 – and indeed all year round – we can take part in events and activities to show our support, many of which have been supported with $1.4 million in grants by the Coalition Government.
“There’s no limit to what we can achieve by working in partnership as a community.”
