Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton has congratulated communities across Western New South Wales on their grant applications though the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
Mr Coulton said that the not for profit organisation has done a fantastic job of supporting regional communities for twenty five years.
“Regional communities face certain challenges because of a number of factors including geographical isolation and access to services that are often taken for granted in metropolitan areas,” said Mr Coulton.
“Over 600 community groups applied for an FRRR grant under this round, with 149 successful applicants. Most of the applications come from communities of less than 5000 people. “
The FRRR Small Grants for Small Communities program supports community organisations to help them in community projects such as community gardens to local historical collections and community playgroups.
“I am particularly pleased about the grants going to communities which are dealing with the impact of prolonged drought. At times like these it is important for communities to pull together.”
