A re-elected Liberal-National Government will contribute $100,000 towards improving the economics of moving grain from local farms to customers in North West New South Wales (NSW).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Barnaby Joyce and Member for Parkes Mark Coulton today announced that North West NSW grain growers operating as the Grower Co-operative Limited (GrowerCo) will receive funding to help progress their agricultural initiative.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the promise demonstrates the Liberal-National Party’s commitment to supporting Australian farmers and exporters.
“The opportunities for the agricultural sector are enormous,” Deputy Prime Minister Joyce said.
“We sit on the edge of the strongest growing region in the world, we have a developed agriculture sector with sound prospects for expansion, we have food safety, animal welfare, biosecurity and environmental credentials that are world-class and we have a well-educated and skilled workforce.
“The Coalition is focused on delivering agricultural policies that deliver increased returns for farmers at the farm gate and provide a fairer go for farm businesses.”
In Moree today with GrowerCo representatives, Mr Coulton said that the $100,000 commitment will help set up GrowerCo and will allow them to improve the efficiency of the supply chain from paddock to port.
“The grain farmers of North West NSW are the most efficient in the world,” Mr Coulton said.
“They have increased production through the use of cutting edge technology and agronomy.
“GrowerCo is focussed on the development of an integrated supply chain solution from farm to port that finds a more efficient way to transport produce.
“The flow on benefits from the work of GrowerCo in developing an efficient supply chain path is significant not only for local growers but also to our regional, state and national economies.
“I look forward to seeing the results of GrowerCo’s important work over the coming years.”
