Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, has welcomed $2 million in funding from the Murray Darling Basin Regional Economic Diversification Program (MDBREDP) for two new projects in Barwon.
“$1.5 million has been allocated for the ‘Bourke to the Core’ project,” Mr Humphries said.
“This funding is great news for the electorates of Barwon and Parkes and will strengthen the retail and tourism sectors in Bourke in particular.
“Another $500,000 has also been provided to the Warren business community, to help create a more modern, vibrant business environment that means businesses will have new opportunities to grow, providing services for new customers and employing more locals.”
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said that the Coalition Government was committed to basin communities doing it tough as a result of the Murray Darling Basin Plan through the Murray-Darling Basin Regional Economic Diversification Program.
“It is vital that we protect the economic and social interests of Basin communities,” Mr Coulton said.
“We’ve capped water buybacks as part of our commitment to these towns and this program will provide funding to strengthen the communities’ economic diversity.”
Federal Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Coalition is committed to investing in projects that will diversify and strengthen the local economy.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Development, John Barilaro, said the Program is funded by the Commonwealth Government and administered by the NSW Government, to help regional communities affected by the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
“This is about strengthening local communities and giving people certainty for the future,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Today’s announcement is on top of $21 million that has already been committed to create more than 900 jobs in the Basin through this program.
“I’m pleased to say that many of the funded projects are already delivering strong outcomes that will help diversify economies and create new jobs.”
