The fantastic supported employees at Westhaven Business Services in Dubbo are playing a key part in the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) across the Dubbo area.
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton was pleased to visit Westhaven Business Services this week to see first-hand the great work some of the supported employees are undertaking to create tags that will be used on cables as part of the NBN rollout.
“I always enjoy coming up here and seeing the great work these guys do here at Westhaven Business Services,” Mr Coulton said.
“Creating these tags for the NBN is such an important role and the standard to which these tags need to comply is very high, leaving little room for error.
“I am so pleased that NBN contractor’s Downer EDI Limited have created this partnership with Westhaven and that these fabulous local residents are involved in the NBN rollout at a grass roots level.
“I think it’s symbolic that there is now a little piece of Dubbo attached to the national NBN rollout.”
The Westhaven supported employees have been creating tags for over 4 months and have produced 1,000 units each month. The tags will be attached to each cable as part of the NBN rollout across Dubbo and surrounding regions.
Westhaven’s Manager of Disability Enterprises, Kris Gersbach has welcomed the partnership with Downer EDI Limited and is very grateful that her organisation has the opportunity to be involved in a large-scale national project.
“Westhaven has been open for 50 years and I am very pleased that we have this new and innovative opportunity for our guys to part of the electronic expansion of the Dubbo are,” Ms Gersbach said.
“The guys are just so excited to be part of the NBN rollout. They see the rollout on the television and in the newspapers and they are so proud to be playing a key role in implementing this across our area.”
It is hoped that this partnership will continue into the future with the possibility that Westhaven will continue to create tags for the NBN rollout in other parts of New South Wales.
