Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack, recently joined with Moree Plains Shire Council to review stage one improvements to the Moree Regional Airport’s critical infrastructure upgrade.
The upgrade includes the lighting system, towards which the Coalition Government provided $500,000, and is part of the Coalition Government’s former National Stronger Regions Fund. The State Government and Moree Plains Shire Council have collectively provided additional funds of $2 million for upgrades to the lighting, drainage and pavement systems at the airport.
Mr Coulton said the upgrade of the Moree Regional Airport will further promote economic growth for Moree and its surrounding towns.
“The upgrade to Moree Regional Airport will play an important role in maintaining and increasing air services to the town and region, while also providing increased aviation safety,” Mr Coulton said.
“Upgraded runway lights will greatly assist pilots to make quick, informed judgements, promoting better safety for those on board.
“Thanks to these improvements, runway lights will be brighter and spaced in conformance with air transport safety requirements.
“I am pleased that in partnership with the State Government and Moree Plains Shire Council, the Coalition Government has been able to deliver this important upgrade,” Mr Coulton said.
