The Murray-Darling Basin Authority has released it's Guide to the Plan Volume 1, which outlines the proposed limits on water use that will deliver sustainable environmental outcomes in the Murray-Darling Basin.
The plan is a flawed and does not recognise the importance of the agriculture to both regional communities and the Australian economy by recommending cuts of up to 27 to 37 per cent of irrigators’ water allocation rights.
The plan also fails to address the socio-economic impacts these cuts would have on not only producers but entire local communities, with job losses in the Parkes Electorate predicted at over 5 000.
