Rural Skills Shortage Forum in Moree
11-September-2012
As a response to the Rural Skills Shortage being experienced in rural communities and particularly the broadacre farming sector, Nationals Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has organised a public forum and information session in Moree on 27th September with representatives of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Mr Coulton said the purpose of the forum is to explore the possibility of a Regional Migration Agreement and other alternatives to allow sponsorship of suitable skilled foreign workers.
“Unless these workforce issues can be resolved the productivity of western NSW will severely impacted. Hopefully this forum will lead to a resolution and a practical way to move forward.”
Members of the NSW Farmers Federation, DIAC and Regional Development Australia will explain the various alternatives available.
Interested members of the public are invited to attend this forum at the Max Centre at 1pm on Thursday 27th September. Attendees will be encouraged to form a working party to facilitate implementation of an agreement for this area.
