Final chance to have your say on the Murray-Darling Basin Plan
03-April-2012
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is encouraging people who are concerned about the impact the Murray-Darling Basin Plan will have on their communities or businesses, to prepare submissions to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority before the April 16 deadline.
“The consultation period for the Murray-Darling Basin Plan is wrapping up and I urge all local stakeholders to make their concerns heard before the end of the consultation period of April 16,” Mr Coulton said.
“It is very important that residents in the Parkes electorate make submissions to the Authority as it represent 24 per cent of the entire Murray-Darling Basin.”
“We have a big stake in this Plan and we need to ensure that our local communities do not suffer through further water cutbacks and misguided water buybacks. It is imperative that you make your voice heard.”
“I strongly urge everyone to make their concerns known to the Authority. We need a plan that is factually based and one that does not negatively impact the 2.1 million Australians who live in the Basin and the many millions who rely on the food and fibre that is produced in the Basin.”
“It is vital that we have a sustainable plan for the Basin that delivers on the environmental, economic and social factors; there must be a triple-bottom line delivery. The future of the Murray-Darling should not just be a choice between the environment and agriculture.”
