Australia Day
25-January-2012
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has called on residents of the Parkes electorate to join in activities and help celebrate Australia Day on Thursday January 26.
Mr Coulton said the day was one where the nation could celebrate what is great about Australia and being Australian.
He said he was extremely proud to see the scope of celebrations that will be held across the Parkes electorate on the 26th.
“Australia Day is a chance to celebrate all that’s great about Australia and how proud the many communities in the Parkes electorate are to be part of a national celebration,” he said.
“I would encourage everybody to get out and about on January 26th to acknowledge all the great things about Australia, for example our people, our land, our diversity, our sense of a fair go, our lifestyle, our democracy and our freedoms.”
Mr Coulton said he was honoured to be sharing Australia Day with a number of communities throughout the electorate.
“I’ll be celebrating with the community of Bourke this year, with their annual Australia Day breakfast,” he said.
“Through locally organised events every community in the Parkes electorate captures the spirit of our national day. I encourage everybody to get out and about and participate in the celebrations.”
