Coulton welcomes vital CDEP funding

09-November-2011

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has welcomed $2,962,590 in funding to the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) programs in the Parkes Electorate.

The funding will go towards strengthening employment assistance, training and supporting community initiatives in the communities of Bourke, Weilmoringle, Enngonia, Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge, Mungindi, Walgett, Coonamble, Gulargambone, Goodooga, Collarenebri, Murrin Bridge and Lake Cargelligo.

“I have always been a supporter of the CDEP program,” Mr Coulton said. “It is an initiative which aims to assist unemployed Aboriginal people and has been very beneficial in many Parkes electorate communities.”

“CDEP’s provide an ideal platform for Aboriginal people to gain practical skills that assist them in gaining entry into the workforce. However, the program also has many social benefits and fosters a sense of purpose and self belief.”

“The CDEP providers will use this funding to support Aboriginal communities, families and participants by delivering projects that contribute to community wellbeing.”

The successful CDEP providers for 2011-12 are:

-       Birrang Enterprise Development Company Ltd – covers Bourke, Weilmoringle, Enngonia and Brewarrina.

-       Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation Ltd – covers Lightning Ridge, Mungindi, Walgett, Coonamble, Gulargambone, Goodooga and Collarenebri.

-       Griffith Skills Training Centre Inc – covers Murrin Bridge and Lake Cargelligo.
