Wiradjuri Study Centre official opening in Condobolin

Wiradjuri Study Centre official opening in Condobolin

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton joined the nearly one thousand people who gathered for the official opening of the Wiradjuri Study Centre in Condobolin today.

The Wiradjuri Study Centre is a centre for education and the reinvigoration of local culture. The centre will work to promote the study and understanding of Wiradjuri culture, while also facilitating employment for Aboriginal people.

“I congratulate the hard work of the board of the Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation and also the wider community for making this dream a reality.”

“The theme of the day was looking forward, looking back; about recognising the historical dispossession and disadvantage that Aboriginal people suffered, but not dwelling on the past and working towards a brighter future.”

“The centre will be a place of learning, focusing on social change and self-determination,” Mr Coulton said. “It will engage the local community both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal and foster strong relationships.”

“I believe the centre will be a boost for the entire Condobolin district and I am expecting positive outcomes for local employment as well as a greater awareness of the rich Wiradjuri culture.”
