Health funding announced for Parkes Electorate communities

28-April-2011

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has welcomed the announcement that Brewarrina Shire Council, the Dubbo Plains Division of General Practice and the Lachlan Shire Council will be recipients of funding under the National Rural and Remote Health Infrastructure Program (NRRHIP).

The NRRHIP aims to improve access to health services in rural and remote areas by providing funding for existing or new health facilities and enhancing the range of health services provided in these communities.

“This funding program is a valuable program which will benefit these rural and remote communities and better enable them to provide quality health services,” Mr Coulton stated.

Included in the allocated funding is:

  • $394,000.00 for Brewarrina Shire Council for the refurbishment of the medical centre to create additional space for the GP Practitioner and visiting medical staff.

  • $37,611.25 for the Dubbo Plains Division of General Practice to go towards the purchase of new medical equipment in Dunedoo.

  • $500,000.00 to the Lachlan Shire Council to construct a new medical centre facility adjacent to the old premises to meet the growing demands of the community.

“The funding is great news for the towns of Brewarrina, Dunedoo and Condobolin and also for the outlying towns and communities. The remoteness of these towns means many residents have to travel huge distances to receive medical assistance,” Mr Coulton said. “However, this funding will ensure these communities have access to adequate health care services.”

“I would like to congratulate the people in these communities who have been working tirelessly for a long, long time to secure funding for these vital health projects.”
