Bingara Community College Upgrade Opened Today

07-September-2010

Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, officially opened the upgrade at Bingara Community College today.

The upgrade includes a new computer lab with 10 computers and software, a separate office and conference room which seats 20, whiteboards, heaters, a projector, a widescreen TV and DVD player, a shed for outdoor workshops and a rainwater tank.

Funding for the upgrade was provided by the Federal Government’s Investing in Community Education and Training fund.

Mr Coulton said he was delighted to be part of the opening, and said that the upgraded resources would further enhance the services offered by the college.

“Community education is so important, and it is very rewarding to see an investment being made to improve the facilities here in Bingara,” he said.

The opening of the upgraded facilities coincides with Adult Learning Week, and Mr Coulton encouraged all members of the community to consider using the services provided by the college.

“The Gwydir Shire has a proud history of encouraging community learning, especially through the Gwydir Learning Region program which the Bingara Community College participates in.

“The College caters for people aged 15 years and over, and offers a wide array of courses including senior first aid, food handling, IT and business courses. They also offer social classes, such as pilates and sewing.

“Bingara residents are so lucky to have this resource in their town, and I would encourage all residents to think about taking a course or participating in one of the social activities offered.

Mr Coulton also congratulated all of the staff for their hard work in obtaining the funding for the upgrade.

“This is a really big achievement, and all who are involved with the Bingara Community College should be congratulated for their dedication to learning in our community”, he concluded.
