Election 2010 – A Win For The Nationals
31-August-2010
The Nationals are celebrating their best election result in decades and are playing a key role in the ongoing process to form Government.
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, has been in Canberra this week for The Nationals first party meeting since the August 21 poll, and says that this is an exciting time for The Nationals.
“This election has seen The Nationals pick up three extra seats in the House of Representatives and one extra Senator.
“There are now 18 Members and Senators in The Nationals party room, up from 14 Members and Senators prior to the 2010 election,” Mr Coulton said.
“We were able to achieve this result because we learned from the lessons of our defeat in 2007. We made a commitment to continue to work hard to ensure regional Australia gets the representation it deserves. Our commitment has paid off.
Mr Coulton also said that The Nationals are keeping a close eye on the negotiations in Canberra this week.
“We need to make sure the needs of all rural electorates are taken into account with whatever deals are done,” he said.
“The Nationals will continue to advocate for all of regional Australia as the negotiations continue.
